BEYOND THE ROOM - NextLevel Acoustics

Rather than relying on the same familiar movie clips audiences have heard countless times, “Beyond the Room” was created from the ground up as dedicated home cinema demonstration content—designed specifically to showcase what a truly immersive audio system can do.

The experience moves far beyond a traditional demo reel. Sounds travel across the room, behind the listener and overhead, while carefully placed effects appear from precise locations throughout the soundfield. Quiet, atmospheric moments give way to dramatic shifts in scale, powerful low-frequency events and room-filling transitions—all crafted to create the sensation that the walls and speakers have disappeared and the audience has been pulled directly into the experience.

Enlisting the services of Nick Matzke of Bayview Audio, every sequence was developed with demonstration in mind, giving enthusiasts, dealers and integrators an engaging new way to showcase imaging, dynamics, spatial precision, height-channel performance, bass impact and seamless movement throughout an immersive theater system. The result is a demo that is not only technically revealing, but also simply fun to experience.

“One of the things we always loved about CEDIA was finding a great new demo and bringing it back to share with friends, family, and customers,” said Lee Weber, Co-Owner of NextLevel Acoustics. “That was the inspiration behind ‘Beyond the Room.’ We wanted to create something people would be excited to experience at the show—and just as excited to bring home and play in their own theaters.”

Four standout moments that make Beyond the Room a truly unique Atmos experience

The Vortex

When the theater scene starts spinning around you, you’ll feel like the actual room is spinning as sounds move around you in a circular motion on the vertical plane—not the horizontal plane.

The Bass Drop

The main bass drop, along with several other moments in this demo, features infrasonic frequencies that extend into the single digits. It hits high SPL all the way down to 10 Hz, and extends all the way down to 2 Hz at slightly lower SPL. Those with infrasonic-capable subwoofers will experience the incredible room pressurization this demo can deliver.

Every Speaker, Every Direction

Whether it’s objects moving overhead—broken glass, airplanes, voices, gunshots—or the countless other sounds traveling throughout the room, everything has meticulously precise movement. That precision scales beautifully to even the largest Atmos systems, with sounds moving seamlessly through each speaker. The height speakers are heavily utilized throughout the demo, making full use of your entire Atmos system.

The Finale

A late addition to this demo was our reworking of the final scene. It originally featured a pretty cool battle finale with a soldier’s voice moving around the room, but we decided to swap that out for a T-Rex taking center stage. Because, really, who doesn’t love dinosaurs. You’ll hear a T-Rex emerge behind you as people scream and scatter to your left. He charges through the room, his enormous footsteps pounding around you as he tears through the foliage, violently pushing it aside as he breathes and snarls around you. Then, just when the chaos seems to reach its peak, he stops directly in front of you—and immediately unleashes a massive roar from directly above you that explodes through the entire room and should leave you shaken.
